Preserve the Past – Inspire the Future

2013 proved to be a revolutionary year for conscious music!  A long overdue ‘dharamic’ (righteous living) music label finally launched in the form of Dharam Seva Records.  Dharam Seva is spear-headed by a non paid volunteer network of over 60 people worldwide.

The project, has also touched the heart of global Bhangra stars and in its first year established as a UK Registered Charity making no profits and all work being done is Volantary.

Many volunteers became disheartened by the low number of quality dharamic music projects in existence. They became concerned that extraordinary dharamic music releases did not receive the promotion, recognition and level of attention, from the Punjabi music loving audiences that they deserved.  With this in mind the concept of DharamSeva Records was born.  The sevadaars used their connections and skills to set up a fully integrated framework, which now consists of Singers, Song Writers, Music Producers, Video Producers, Social Media, a PR Team and most importantly, a Not for Profit Record Label, which ensures that all profits will be reinvested into creating bigger and better ‘dharamic’ projects.

So far many distinguished artists have committed to the cause including Diljit Dosanjh, Jazzy B, Harbhajan Mann, Sukshinder Shinda, Charanjit Ahuja, Durga Rangila, Satwinder Bugga, Jaz Dhami, KS Makhan, Tru-Skool, Kulwinder Johal, Kaos Productions, Gupsy Aujla, Raju Dinehwala, Benny Dhaliwal, Geeta Zaildar, Mangi Mahal, Bups Sagoo, DJ Dips, Jassy Jallanderi, Raman Aujla, Bikram Singh, Amit Rai, Inside Man, Meshi Eshara, Manak-E, Madan Maddi, Manjit Pappu, Sangra Vibes and legendary percussionist Juggy Rehal.  As well as these household names, the label will be bringing back Mandeep Singh (The Specialist) and Baljinder Singh (Bally Rai) who have also received the blessings of Khande de Phahul  since leaving the bhangra music industry.

The signing of mantra singer Shabad Deep Kaur from Belgium, Angrez Ali, Jagowala Jatha (Sikh Kavishri Singers) and Rashee Ragga, are all examples of the diversity the label.  The underlying objectives are to help unite people of all faiths, race and nationalities; and by sharing odes to the Timeless one, courageous examples of history and selfless service to humanity, send out a much needed, inspirational message to listeners.

DharamSeva’s music projects only form half of the story.  The label will also be making passionate efforts to  help preserve  the divine art of Gurmat Sangeet and the divine language of the Guru Granth Sahib, GurMukhi Boli, which were both once an integral part of the Sikh way of life.  The devotional singing of GurBani in the prescribed raag, is an unbroken tradition started by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the Sikh faith.  Bhai Mardana, Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s beloved Muslim disciple, musician par excellence and an accomplished player of the Rabaab, was instrumental in delivering Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message using the universal language of music as the medium. DharamSeva Records is on a mission to preserve some of the oldest compositions using the instruments which were created by the Gurus themselves such as the Taus, Dilruba, Saranda and Rabaab.

Recently Dharam Seva Record has gon one to release many unknown artists and currently have multiple projects running with the PTC Prodigy Voice Of Punjab contestant Manveer Singh Mani.  At current there are over 50 projects under production ranging from Kirtan, Paath and Dharmik works.

A Shabad Gurbani Forum also runs weekly by the volunteers in Leamington Spa on Thursday nights 8-10 at the Sydni Centre Leamington Spa.
