Why Does Music Matter?

  • So why does music matter?

First thing because we have ears. Through these ears if you feed sound and voice combined with various pleasant mixtures and frequencies, the music then goes on to evoke emotions.  Some of these emotions can be life changing.   We have received lots of feedback that music has helped people understand things better than most methods. We have clips on our YouTube Channel of children memorizing Gurbani at a very young age after watching some of our Artists led videos.

However the biggest reason why music matters to Dharam Seva Records is because our Guru Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib is all written in musical form.  Guru Granth Sahib Ji is written in Raag format by our great Guru Sahib Ji’s.

Now think….Why did Guru Sahib do this?  They could have left music out?  But no Gurbani is all in Raag Structure.  When singing Guru Jis Shabads on certain frequency’s it has a lasting effect not only on the body and mind but most importantly the soul.  One who practices the action of singing Raag kirtan will be able to verify these words.

It is proven that music effects people actions.

For example Hip Hop listeners will be inspired to act Gangster and will be into all the things inspired upon them by their idols.  Alcohol based songs will glorify drinking and trigger a listener who drinks to pour himself and others some alcohol.  But how often would you see somebody who listens to Classical Mozart 1music involved in a gangster based crimes?  The point we are making is music is proven to effect and inspire humans.  Once one begins to listen to music giving out Guru Jis message we feel it slowly can inspire and help an individual get through any hardships in life.

  • We have a structure which we are working towards at Dharam Seva Records:

Dharmik music is written by normal writers of today.  It helps praise our history and the good deeds of our ancestors.  That then passes on onto the listeners and viewers of videos. Many viewers include children.

Then the next stage is musical tools for example Simran recordings, Mool Mantar tracks and Paat recordings.  These are tools to bring Naam japna onto a person’s tongue daily. We hope as our charity grows that we can create a toolbox of all the different Nitnem Paats and develop applications which helps reach out to people.

Then we move onto the Divine word of God himself – Shabad Gurbani.  Guru is Bani, Bani is Guru.  Do not be mistaken, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Angad Dev Ji, Guru Amar Das Ji, Guru Raam Das Ji, Guru Arjun Dev Ji, Guru Hargobind Ji, Guru Har Rai Ji, Guru Harkrishan Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji all live amongst us today in Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The words of the Gurus are the Gurus. We must always treat Shabad with utmost respect.

You have various forms of Shabads being sung today in the world.  All have a positive as these words are mystical divine mantars for goodness.  Gurbani can only enhance one’s life journey.  There is never a negative with Gurbani.  Humans make errors but Gurbani is beyond any human contemplation and is the most perfect of perfect.  Sublime praise does not even do justice of Gurbani such is the highness of the great words of God himself scribed in Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj (King of all universes)

Some people sing Kirtan in various tunes out of raag.  There is a positive in this aswell, that it that it could eventually attach you to Raag kirtan.

But the ultimate jewel is in Raag Kirtan as done in puratan kirtan darbars.  This has a big effect on the soul and is very advanced technology.  The raag frequencies affect the soul and this is the way our Gurus prescribed kirtan to be done at the top level.  However if one doesn’t have the musical knowledge to understand raag then even saying Waheguru with a clean heart is sufficient.

Dharam Seva Records is bringing you Dharmik music as stepping stones so you begin to get intrigued to listen to the Shabad Guru be it in compositions made by people of today etc or not and then our ultimate aim is to do the Seva of presenting Raag Kirtan on the highest platforms across the world and making it widely available on ITunes and all the latest mediums for distribution.

We wish all humanity to be peaceful and loving to one another and we hope our music helps spread a positive message in what sometimes can look like a dark world money driven world.
